A call gives its buyer the right to buy an underlying asset at a specified strike; a put gives its buyer the right to sell. The premium is the price of that right. Expiry limits its life. An option buyer can lose the entire premium. Selling options introduces different and potentially much larger risks.
Intermediate
An option chain groups contracts by expiry and strike. Calls and puts appear on opposite sides. Read last price alongside bid and ask, volume, open interest and the observation timestamp. Last traded price may be stale. Open interest counts outstanding contracts; it is not a standalone prediction of market direction.
Essential
Decide how much risk you can bear before evaluating a trade. Consider spread, liquidity, expiry and sudden price changes. A PAPER session is a simulation; its fills and results do not establish what a real trade would achieve. No indicator guarantees an outcome.
